OUR TRYST WITH CRAFTSMANSHIP

on

In a nondescript room in the museum is a pair of wooden Indian sandals called ‘paduka’, emerging from the Sanskrit word for feet, ‘pada’. Those are arguably the oldest form of footwear, intricately designed and representing humility, style, wealth and status. This is probably when the Indian romance with open footwear began, as early as 2BCE!

As time passed and fashion and technology evolved, the Kolhapuri leather craftsmen from Maharashtra designed the famed Kolhapuri chappals made with leather and vegetable dyes. Around the same time, mojaris, more commonly known as juttis, made an appearance on the rapidly evolving Indian footwear scene. All of these are still hugely popular. Yes, the designs have changed, but the roots remain the same – rich, vibrant and comfortable.

That’s what has always inspired us at dmodot to come give the modern chappals, sandals and mules our own modern spin while retaining the comfort they’re known for.

From the spartan, ancient-India inspired Pelle Noir and Pelle Espana to the distinctly Roman Pelle Chocro and Pelle Nera, and the chic, modern Pelle Mino and Chilli Slipper, our sandals and chappals each of our creations has three things in common: handcrafted finesse, superlative comfort and premium quality.

The best part? They elevate the style quotient of any attire; Indian, western or fusion.

Check them out now, at dmodot.
